Trip Report [hide]

This time I brought my wife Julie with me to Eldorado Canyon. We met up with Fabio and Kristen and headed up to Redgarden Wall.

As luck would have it we were the first parties at the base of Redgarden Wall so we could climb up the first pitch simultaneously. Julie and I climbed the West Chimney (5.6) up to Red Ledge and Kristen led the first pitch of Rewritten (5.7). It took a while for Julie to get into "the zone" and she took several follower falls on the first 20 feet of the route (which was actually the first 20 feet of The Great Zot before I traversed into the chimney proper). She stuck with it and after her initial struggles had no more difficulties for the rest of the day.

Once on Red Ledge we all traversed over to Swanson Arete (5.5) and climbed that for three pitches up to the top of Lumpe Tower. It was mostly very easy climbing with three short, interesting sections mixed in. The first was an awkward chimney-like thing on the second pitch (funky but well protected moves). The second was the "clean dihedral" on the third pitch (very fun, well-protected climbing). Finally, the last couple of moves up onto the summit of Lumpe Tower were airy and quite fun.

This was Julie's first multi-pitch climb in over a year (the last one being the 2nd Flatiron). We both had a blast.
